The 200 Ton Flat cars were built for the Chicago North Western and Pennsylvania Railroads by Commonwealth Steel Casting Corporation.<\/span><\/p>\n

While flat car kits appear to be simple enough to build, this kit will present challenges none the less for the modeler to solve and finish out requiring a good amount of work. The top deck plate is old\/new stock with die cast detail requiring clean up. Most are not perfectly flat, so it is up to the modeler to develop the right solution to mount this component onto the underframe which is a close facsimile to the prototype 3D printed in ABS plastic. Thus, it is easy to drill and tap for adding detail parts.<\/span><\/p>\n

This unique car which has the greatest capacity of anything ever built for main line service at the time, would be a welcome addition to any layout.<\/span><\/p>\n

What makes this car unique especially from a visual perspective are the dual trucks available from All Nation (see link below) which uses a span bolster.These trucks will allow the car to negotiate just about any radius curve without difficulty. Reverse curves are just the thing to bring out the beautiful swing action of the four trucks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The approximate size of the model in length measure 12″ by a width of 2 7\/16″.<\/span><\/p>\n

The trucks for this kit are sold separately: 200-Ton Dalman Sprung Freight Truck Set 33\u2033 Wheels (1 Pair) PN#646AN <\/a>The dual trucks could have been Dalman or Andrews with the double body bolsters (aka common span bolster) to distribute the weight from the load on the roadbed.\u00a0 These trucks come fully assemble trucks with 4-40 screws to mount the trucks to the bolster.
