My work to develop my own unique Chicago Great Western tank car in\u00a0 brass lead me into experimenting with a modern tank car, the Can Tank Car kit<\/a>. And because one has the basic design and shell so to speak, it is easy to come up with variations. Thus was born this Shorty Tank Car Kit<\/em> which makes some sense on my layout because my space is limited.<\/span><\/p>\n

Again the point with a kit like this is for modelers without a lot of model building skills and, one cannot go to wrong if mistakes are made, or it does not have the perfect number of rivets and detail on first attempts. The point is it is easy and rather quick to assemble for an operational model when completed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The model in our photo I choose to cut down the length of a tin can to develop a unique 29′ tank. And again, my preference is to model the more uncommon equipment used in railroading or my own home grown model that might not mirror an actual prototype. Why would I do that? Because it is fun and I can take personal liberties in detailing and decorating.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Shorty Tank Car comes with 2 standard ends that come together once the can is measured and cut to length. We supply minimal parts as one will need to do some research on short tank cars and decide what company to model. For example, the Eastman Chemical Company used short tank cars. Loading and unloading of specialty chemicals one notes hoses connected from one car to the next as there were no bottom valves. Seaboard Coast Line manifests had GATX cars and often these cars had 33″ wheels.<\/span><\/p>\n

We provide no firm instructions regarding assembly and detailing. Resolving problems along the way without a procedure in hand helps one to learn and can lead to scratch building models. The only thing we can say for sure is you will want to prime, paint and decal the car to finish it out to the road of your preference.<\/span><\/p>\n

All parts are 3D printed to close tolerances using ABS filaments. Colors may vary depending on available filaments.<\/span><\/p>\n
