Description

For Sale: 1 Complete Kit for 1 pair of diesel dummy trucks, complete equalization, prototype weight distribution originally based on the EMD FT, F2, GP Blomberg 4 wheel design as released by EMD in 1939. This kit is not for the beginner first time model builder. Modelers need to be familiar with all the parts, flash cleanup, experience mounting wheels on axles and the type of All Nation F3/F7 engines that these were designed to fit and operate on. For example, we have included the original bakelite platforms and the latest king pin arrangement for our diesel locomotives with the 8 4-40 screws to mount to the engine body.

In order to make this kit easier to build, we have drilled some of the parts with the proper size holes in order to fit and mount some of the detail parts. The original kits we sold had bronze bushings placed in the journals. The bronze bearings were used for self-alignment to the axles and wheels to stay in contact with the rail head on rough track work. If your pike does not have a rough roadbed and track sections, we optional include ball bearings for the journals to vastly improve upon the operational performance. Thus, giving the modeler the option to stay with the original implementation or have a truck that rolls with less ball bearing frictional resistance. Consequently, if using the ball bearings, the modeler will have to machine the journal out so the bearings fit snug in the journal box and also fit the bearing to the ends of the axle such that the bearing is snug on the axle and only the bearing race turns. Doing so will not allow the bearing to float in the journal as does the bronze bearing slightly. The sideframes are diecast and the entire truck is all metal making for a truck that operates and rolls smoothly down the track.

The sub-assemblies for this kit include the following:

1 bag of all detail parts, screws, washers, etc.
1 bag of axles and 40″ wheels with insulator inserts
1 bag of sidesframes, bolsters and bakelite platforms

As a bonus, we are including the original parts breakdown diagram from Atwater General Models to illustrate the assembly procedure. Note that clips are now replaced by    Cotter R Clip Pins for securing the bolsters to the frames.

This kit should challenge you and much enjoyment derived from putting it all together.
