For Sale: The EMD SW 1500 is an American diesel switcher locomotive made by General Models’ Electro-Motive Division during the 60’s and 70’s.
The provenance of this model and appropriate attribution goes to Daniel Noree. As stated by Daniel, “This 1:32 scale version of the EMD SW 1500 locomotive is part of “The OpenRailway Project” which is a Open Source initiative to bring more free model trains to the world. While having done several different 3Dprinting projects in the past I needed something with more attention to detail to 3Dprint. Since me and my dad had already built a garden railway (scale 1:32) it felt like a good idea to go for a train. I went to a model train store in Stockholm to discuss what train that might be suitable and after two or three cups of coffee I decided to go for the EMD SW1500.”

As per the license, no additional creative enhancements have been done to these 3D Print components by All Nation and therefore, there is nothing to contribute back to the Open Source community. Given the original files were all developed for the garden railway in G Scale, All Nation simply scaled the parts to 1:48 for the benefit of all O Scale 2 Rail modelers that have no desire to get into 3D printing, but would also like to have a craftsman kit to build for their railroad layout. This kit is an excellent platform to super detail or customize an engine for the particular prototype railroad one is modeling.
The kit is an easy build and makes a great dummy engine to have in the yard. Some clean up of trim, build plate brim materials and threads may be required. Parts have tiny alignment holes if the modeler cares to use them for assembly. Regular plastic model cement or CA glue can be used to assemble the parts.
Before beginning to assemble the model, lay out all the parts and think through what your end goals are in order to have a smooth assembly process. This activity is a great kit to challenge the beginner model builder as well, because not only is it easy to put together, it also jogs the imagination regarding what and how much detail should be added that represents the road you are modeling.
I always wanted an SW 1500 switcher engine for my layout and as can be seen from the reference model build in the photo, the bulk of the work is doing the detailing. The assembled reference model as seen in the photograph is not for sale.
Detailed parts (horn, bell, railing, brass), trucks and couplers are not included.  This kit now comes with the detailed cab as seen in the photos.
