Fairbanks Morse Experimental Grill Material for FM H-16-44

Very recently a fellow modeler from Canada conversed with me about a detail kit for Fairbanks Morse engines. In particular, the FM H-16-44 he was kit bashing from a cut-down Lionel H-24-66 shell. He had the opportunity to scale the FM engine from head to toe and take measurements on one of the few remaining pieces on display in Mexico at the museum in Puebla. He shared his work with me in hopes of provisioning a parts kit for other modelers.

For sale here (2 sheets) is an experimental mesh for the grill work as found on the top rear end of the H-16-44. The prototype measures 2.25 inch squares and due to the way it is installed on the engine over a frame work that protects the vent fan assembly, it dawned on me that the way to replicate this in a model is to use the FLEX filament. Unlike the other grills I print which are not flexible, the FLEX mesh can be formed over the support structure like a canvas by bending or rolling it and tacking it down to a frame which could be printed separately in an PETG or ABS plastic.

In order to simulate the grill to scale, this sheet is a cube pattern 30% & 40% infill, respectively. Again, this is for experimental purposes only. If I had exact dimensions to the model for which this would go on I would print it with a 1 layer perimeter so cutting to size would not be necessary. The dimensions of these sheets are 210mm x 86mm.

Printed with FLEX filament sold as is straight off the Prusa Printer build plate, all sales final no returns.
