For Sale:  Van Dorn Target Box Car Ends (1 Pair) with Brass Backing 3D Printed PN#424AN

Description: Railroad cars and equipment of the most unique kind are my preference for modeling in O Scale. Railroad freight car manufacturers sourced many or most of the components from other specialized companies and suppliers while doing most of the wooden construction and assembly. Just prior to the transition from wood to steel box cars, the Van Dorn Box Car Ends better known as Target Ends was a design that went away for the standard rib style as a means to provision a stronger yet lower weight component that could hold loads from breaking through the ends of cars on emergency stops or hard coupling should the load shift. Even so, these ends were still fabricated to the wood structure of the car.

Thus, a modeler can build a pretty standard wood box car of this era for various roads using typical detail parts and have a unique car on the layout differentiated by these uncommon car ends.

This kit ships with 2 3D Printed target ends and 2 brass backing plates for installation. The 3D Printed ends are approximately 58.4 mm by 58.4 mm. The thickness varies with the target rings sitting on top of a 2 mm thick back plain for an over all thickness of 4mm. The ends can be glued to the brass plate which is the standard size for wood box car kits. See photos for dimensions.
