By popular demand, the All Nation “brass” 40″ Steel Box car is once again in stock!

Back in 1969, All Nation Line brought out the first of new series of “Steam Road Era” box cars. These were the 40 ft. steel box car that depicts the steam to diesel transition period of 1948 to 1958. Silk-screened sides featured the popular name trains of that time. Of course over time the various roads disappeared via the merger route.

These quality kits have been running on layouts to this day. The cars were steel sides and usually pre-painted with Floquil paints. Silk-screening and end reporting mark decals were customized for each road. They had the standard wood roof walks of this era and the A-N #3845 Bettendorf sprung trucks were available to finish out the car.

This type of car was awarded the N0. 2 “Certificate of Conformance” by the National Model Railroad Association upon the introduction.

Super-detailed kits contained formed, stamped and embossed metal sides showing rivet detail; ends and roof. Milled wood roof, floor and end pieces for strength; stamped metal ladders; formed metal cross-braces; stamped roof end platforms; formed roof ribs; formed channel underframe; stamped metal dreadnaught car ends; formed grab irons; hand holds; injection molded plastic AB brake set; formed metal door slides; stamped ajax brake wheel and housing; die-cast coupler pockets; placard boards; machine bolster mounting block; stamped brake platforms; stamped roof walk supports; brads, pins, washers, screws, dummy couplers and complete assembly instructions.

In 1980, All Nation did a special run of only 100 of these box cars all in brass but undecorated. They were particularly pleasing to the eye, and these quickly sold out to O Scale scratch builders and modelers. The special run was never assigned a part number in the catalog.

In 2024, All Nation again, by many special requests, has manufactured a limited run of these fine kits in brass. In perfect condition, we used the very same die stamps that were used for the original run.  A new generation of model builders can experience what many in the past enjoyed to build one of the finest high value kits made in the USA. This time, we will give this kit a part number in our catalog PN#2024BK.

We wish to thank the fine craftsmen at FBF, Inc. in Southampton, PA for their expertise and participation in this project for assisting in manufacturing these fine parts. ISO9001:2015 CERTIFIED
