This weekend — May 23, 2026 — we rolled into one of our favorite kinds of adventures: a visit to the Tobyhanna Train Station Open House, hosted by the Pocono Rail Historical Society (P.R.H.S.) right here in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania.
From the moment we stepped inside, the place was filled with that perfect mix of history, community, and pure model‑railroading joy.
We shot a handful of short videos of the layouts (you’ll see them below!) and had the pleasure of meeting Anthony MacPhee, President of the P.R.H.S. Anthony couldn’t have been more welcoming — he gave us a fantastic tour and shared stories that brought the station’s past to life.
🛤️ Layouts, Countless Stories
The museum features the local HO club model train layouts. One of the highlights is their beautifully detailed model of Tobyhanna in the 1940s, complete with the charm and grit of the era. It’s the kind of layout that makes you lean in close and say, “Oh wow… look at that.”
🏛️ A Station With a Past
Hearing about the history of the Lackawanna Railroad Passenger and Freight Station was a treat. Originally a working station, it was transformed into a museum in the late 1990s — and you can feel the care that went into preserving it. The building itself is a piece of living history.
🛠️ Artifacts, Oddities & Railroad Treasures
Beyond the layouts, the museum is filled with fascinating railroad artifacts — tools, signage, equipment, and pieces of the region’s railroading past. We snapped photos of several items that rail fans will absolutely love.
🙌 A Big Thank‑You
We’re grateful to Anthony and Tyler for taking the time to show us around and share the stories behind the station and the society. We had a wonderful visit — and we think you’ll enjoy it too.
Below are the photos and videos from our day at the station. Enjoy the ride!
