For Sale:  All Nation AAR Type A Truck Kit Unassembled (PAIR) with Glue Jigs – No Wheel Sets PN#286ANK

The All Nation unassembled truck kit without wheel sets is available for modelers that want to replace the original die cast All Nation trucks on their NW2 switchers using the original wheels.

The well known AAR Type A truck used on railroad locomotives was patented by Martin P. Blomberg of Hinsdale, Illinois assigned to General Motors Corporation. Working with General Steel Corporation other patents followed. The design was for a railway car truck and of course found on many model railroad layouts under switcher engines.

This project was on my bucket list for a long time to improve upon the original All Nation die cast truck and replace it with a working sprung model. Currently, we are testing this on our non-powered engines and later with our power truck transmission drives.

We believe the kit will be fun to build because it will not be a static model, rather an operational and functioning component under engines ranging from NW2 to SW 1500 locomotives on your layout. Assembling the kit does not require a high degree of skill or modeling experience. The tools required to build the kit include 0-80 Clearance drill #51, an 0-80 Tap, an 00-90 Clearance drill #55, a fine file, a couple of small screw drivers both straight and philips, CA glue and a 4-40 Tap. The clearance drills are primarily used to clear the holes on components that mount to the frames.

The modeler may also require a tool or press to press the wheels onto the axles.

The plastic parts in this kit are not resin printed. Developed in the CAD program, all parts are engineered for FDM printing using high grade polymer blends. Hours of prints and reprints to test the plastics, the recent introduction of a Poly Carbonate ABS blend solved a number of problems. The ABS gave us the right combination for details and the Poly Carbonate the strength and reduced friction of moving parts. The parts drill and tap nicely compared to other available filaments. The leaf springs and the sway bars are printed using Filatech Flex 40. The reason we like this better than the 98A are the properties have a slightly more rubbery flexibility with strength such that it allows the frame to flex crosswise whereas a solid sway bar makes for an entirely ridge frame. Thus, as one may have noticed a resin printing of parts would not give us the realistic suspension action we wanted to achieve.

Assembly Instructions do not come with this kit. But we have a 40 minute video to advise and suggest the best way to go about building the kit right the first time.
