The Chicago Great Western Railroad was rather well known for their locomotive lash ups of F3/F7 engines consisting of 2 A Units and 4 B Units for a total of 9,000 horse power. They had long freight trains to manage tonnage through the hilly country of Jo Daviess County in Illinois so it was very impressive to watch them go by. I decided to develop a dual powered engine for my switching layout to be used in local service and freight with my other CGW power on the roster. I like the unique combinations and use of whatever locos were available for local assignments such as an NW2 with a B Unit or a GP7 and B Unit to push around cars. Given this was not to be a road engine anymore, I went with the 12 vdc motor at 3420 RPM which runs at realistic scale speeds yet has enough power to behave mu’d to another one of my engines rather nicely.

This product is drop in ready with the typical 8 4-40 machine screws for mounting the chassis to the body and is easy to service and lubricate. The dual transmissions puts plenty of tractive effort to the rails. Each tower upper shaft connects to the motor shaft with a universal joint and PTFE tubing. Completely assembled with our latest Blomberg trucks using ball bearings in the journals and all wheel pickup for 2 rail DC.

It should be noted, this product is for installation into All Nation F3/F7 B Units only and is a great upgrade to add power on the layout. It can be wired for DCC and/or sound, alternatively Power On Board as well. If converted for road use, meaning a higher speed on the layout, the motor can be changed out with a higher RPM motor so there is flexibility.
