New & Improved Kadee couple height gauge. Conductor Railway Hobbies is putting Modeling back into Model Railroading with this 2 Rail O Scale Coupler Height Gauge that uses a #743 Kadee Coupler. The gauge comes as an easy to assemble kit with 1 2-56 brass machine screw for the pocket mount. Many ready to run models tend to have variance in the height of the couplers, either to high or to low. This gauge was modeled in FreeCAD to meet the NMRA standard such that rail head clearance will not interfere with operation and running on the layout.
The tail piece is to gauge the car body height and if a particular thickness of shim is needed under the pocket. The bottom plate under the tail is to check the tail pin height on the couple and it should just ride on top of that plate.

Once assembled, simply position the gauge on a piece of straight track and set the freight car on the track to determine the proper coupler height. On the opposite end of the gauge is a tail stock used to determine how much of a thickness is required for shimming the coupler pocket to the correct height. Insert the tail piece into the gauge block, place it on the track and roll your freight car up to end of the car to see where the car body falls in relation to the top side of the coupler. This however is pocket dependent or draft gear center sill dependent and is used for reference purposes only. The top of the tail piece is approximately on the same plain as the top of the 743 shank. Because the tail piece is printed with 100% Infill, using a feeler gauge the modeler can if desired gently sand down the surface as I tried to put the plain in line with the top of the shank and not higher than the coupler knuckle height. It is my hope this tool will make it easier to to adjust your couplers to standard NMRA recommendations.
Included with this kit is a set of shims (color may vary: shims each in the following thicknesses: 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.25mm, 1.5mm, 1.75mm, and 2.0mm).

Sold as is straight off the Prusa Printer built plate, all sales final no returns. PLA is not dishwasher safe and may deform in a hot automobile in the summer time as it has a relatively low glass-transition temperature. The coupler pocket and shank are now Polycarbonate printed.
