ALL-NATION POWER DRIVE Constant Torque Transmission for the NW2 Switcher Engine accommodates the correct wheel base length in the truck side frames. Originally manufactured  in our plant in the 1960s, we here at All-Nation feel proud to be able to maintain our modern advanced engineering principles to the gauge for the discriminating craftsman, scale “O” gauge. At a time when quality materials are being withdrawn from small mass-produced model railroad equipment and inferior materials are being substituted for quality long-life more expensive metals, we feel it is significant to note that All-Nation carries on to continually improve it’s “recognized quality” equipment in the craftsman gauge. The principles applied to the Constant Torque Transmission have long been used and proven in automobiles, trucks and industrial equipment of all types, in fact, wherever smooth performance and long-life durability are required.

All components as spelled out in the parts list are new. While the design has been proven, our improvements since its original introduction include the ability to disassemble and assemble the mechanism for any repairs, shim ring fine tuning or maintenance over its life time. Power from the motor is transmitted to the ball joint on the upper shaft of the gear gear box which takes up any end play. All new Steel to brass helical cut gears give constant torque,  cat-like quietness and eel-like smoothness unobtainable in straight tooth gear arrangements. The slow speed shaft has a long spline to accommodate traction wheel bases from 1 5/8″ to 2 5/8″ for scale road diesels. It drives the wheels through a steel worm and brass gear on each axle. This 4 wheel drive and automatic equalization insures maximum traction as all 4 wheels are constantly applying  pressure to the rails at one time. While this item is specific for the diesel switcher, the wheel base as far as minimum at 1 5/8″ (6’6″ scale) to 2 5/8″ (9’9 1/2″ scale) depends on the length of the drive shaft (aka male spline) from the small gear box that takes power from the tower gear box. Consequently, this transmission configuration can be used on a road diesel with a wider wheel base if the male spline is slightly longer or on trolley models with short wheel base dimensions.
