For Sale:Trolley Power Substation Building KIT with Rotary Converters (2) & Transformers (2) 3D Printed PN#709ANK

(Note: may come in various colors based on our filament stock)

Another brilliant and unique design by Gary Reighn! With Gary’s permission we are able to print and provide a fun kit for modelers to build.  It includes the building kit itself, two (2) rotary converters and (2) transformers (17 pieces in total).  It is worth every minute of the 44+ hours to print. 🙂 A must for any trolley enthusiast.

All Nation Line makes these parts available for modelers not into 3D Printing. We think this approach is a win-win both for the beginning modeler and the designer to encourage more great work in our O Scale community. We are all about introducing new modelers to the hobby with a low cost easy to assemble kit that helps entry level kit builders improve their skills. Their effort is rewarded with a very nice looking historical traction substation building perfect for any trolley layout. The key to assembly is keeping all parts square when gluing up the components and clamping until the glue sets. Most glue joint line work is not visible if done right. The assembled building is for example only and the trolley cars are for effect (not included :-).

The detailed brickwork, the windows, doors & ease to put together demonstrate Gary’s talent in this creative design.  He provides the following description: “This is an O scale (1:48) model of a typical mid-western, brick power substation used to house electrical equipment for trolley systems back in the day”. …The building is (LxWxH) 4.9″ (124.2mm) x 6.5″ (164mm) x 4.7″ (119.12mm) .”  He describes the rotary converter as a typical piece of electrical equipment found in such a building and the transformers are often seen nearby.  See below for more details on this design.
The kit does not provide for a roof or floor or additional detail parts beyond what is described in this description. The kit is fairly intuitive to put together; however, we provide some ideas below on how we went about the build.  Suggested items required to build – download our basic kit instructions on model building: CLICK HERE

Several Photos in our experience to help you think about the build:

Layout all the pieces and inspect:

Set the table with all items you need.  Protect your table with wax paper or parchment paper.

Clean up any extra build from the 3D printing.

Fit the pieces together BEFORE gluing

Carefully apply the CA glue and avoid getting any on your skin.

Use various methods for clamping.  Sometimes just holding until glue sets is ok, too.

Let the glue firmly cure before attaching other pieces.

Line up sides using a right angle to make sure it is aligned.

Let the glue completely dry.

Then bring both sides together and glue up the final corners.

The provenance of this model and appropriate attribution goes to Gary Reighn (www.reighn.com/3dprint.html) for developing the files for 3D Printing in O Scale. His files are available for download and printing on your own printer. The files for this Trolley Substation are available at Cults3d for a nominal charge.  The design is licensed under CULTS-Private USE  but as mentioned above Gary has approved All Nation Line to print and provide this product on our website.  Please read more at the various links if you have more questions on this topic.

Sold as is straight off the Prusa Printer built plate and modeler may have some build to clean. The parts are printed using PLA plastic may be printed in various colors of filament we have in stock.  The color in the photo is pearl mouse grey and plain grey, but colors will vary.   You can paint the building in whatever colors suit your layout. PLA is not dishwasher safe and may deform in a hot automobile in the summer time as it has a relatively low glass-transition temperature between 50 and 80 °C and a melting temperature between 170 and 180 °C
