This highly recommended product includes the parts for the installation jig developed to install the rail into the All Nation Concrete Ties With Plates – Flex Track For Code 148. Because the concrete ties are FLEX ties for installing Code 148 rail, you need a reusable jig to hold the ties in place when inserting the rail. Please see the photos in this listing and the video below.
The parts in this purchase need to be mounted on a board using nails, screws, glue, or whatever your preference may be. We recommend, when installing the first side of the jig, to use a straight edge perhaps like a piece of aluminum angle to ensure the jig is straight.
Next, lay the Flex ties in place in order to fit and adjust the other side pieces of the jig, noting there is a little play in the length wise direction but not so much, if any, laterally. You need just enough space to drop the sections into the jig and easily remove them after the rail is installed. The 8 section pieces of the jig (4 on each side of your jig) accommodates 4 sections of ties. By default, rail usually comes in 36″ lengths; however, 4 of the 10″ concrete tie sections total 40″, thus some ties may be removed if so desired.
Before inserting the rail, closely inspect the rail for any oxidation or corrosion and remove it from both sides of the rail web. We recommend making the end of the rail with a slight point so it self directs into and through the tie plates. If necessary, use some vegetable oil on the rail web so it slides in easier. Clamping the jig board to your bench may also be a benefit when inserting the rail. Some may prefer to get the rail insertion started and then use a small hammer to tap on the end to move it along through all the tie plates.
