Brand new replacement tower drive transmission for F3/F7 engines. Re-engineered with Poly-carbonate 4038 and 4039 gear box panels for a more quiet drive in the tower and small gear unit, respectively, with further enhancements. For example, the chain drive sprockets are an advanced Poly-Carbonate/ABS filament blend, a tough durable material above and beyond the older delrin/nylon parts used in the past.
The gear box sides where the top driven drive shaft is installed slightly higher compared to our standard helix transmission or the drives we have that have 10 or 12 sprocket teeth on the top and 16 on the bottom. Raising the top shaft accommodates larger sprockets of the same size, 16 teeth top and bottom, for a 1:1 ratio. In addition, on some implementations the motor shaft is more aligned with the tower as well.
In order to use this replacement product, remove the old transmission and reuse the original trucks side frames and journal bushings to reassemble.
Note, there are gear box covers on each axle. Highly asked for feature was the ability to totally take apart the transmissions for servicing and or fine tuning with shim washers. Thus, the spacer bushings on the drive shafts are tapped for 3-48 screws as opposed to the old means of mounting the side panels.
The sprockets are 3D Printed using a high grade Poly Carbonate ABS formula filament.
We are confident that our changes and improvements will give decades of running service in your locomotives. However, mechanisms still need periodic lubrication as most modelers know already.
